Herr wins first time out with Irish Mike’s
Chip Herr has won on his return to WC Touring Car’s with Irish Mike’s Racing in his Volkswagen Jetta GLI, beating Scion’s Tom Lepper by 0.224s.
The win was Chip Herr’s seventh in World Challenge competition, Chip also picked up the hard charger award for progessing six overall positions during the race at the Mosport circuit in Canada.
“Mike Flynn has worked hard to develop these Volkswagen’s and I feel like I had the easy job today to just jump in the car and drive. It was a great day.” said Herr.
Tom Lepper finished second in his first race of the season.
Eric Meyer was third in the XOWii Racing Mazda RX-8.
Championship leader Robert Stout, driving for the DG-Spec Scion team, finished fourth in class, but still holds a strong lead of 84 points over Meyer in the standings.
In the mixed GTS class, the Acura TSX’s of Peter Cunningham and Nick Esayian finished 3rd and 4th in class, Cunningham having a long battle with Tyler McQuarrie’s Lotus Exige. The class was won John Heinricy in a Chevrolet.
