Holden giants rolling out new cars

Holden Racing Team & TeamVodafone are preparing new cars for their drivers next month, as the two competing Holden teams battle hard for the championship.

HRT plan to introduce their new Holden Commodore VE’s for the Hidden Valley round on 18th-20th June.

Garth Tander’s current Commodore is two years old, whilst the car team mate Will Davison is racing was introduced at the final round of 2007 whilst Mark Skaife & Todd Kelly were racing for the team.

The new HRT car will feature a new rollcage design, which will position the driver nearer the centre of the car for providing benefits for both safety and weight distribution.

Speaking to BigPond Sport, Tander says he expects the cars will just allow a bit more flexibility with set-up, rather than being a major step forward in competitivity:
“I can’t imagine the cars are going to be infinitely quicker because the rule structure we have been operating under for some time does not allow for radical changes.”

At the same event, TeamVodafone will field a new car for series leader Jamie Whincup – whilst their current car is only six race weekend’s old after being built new for this year as the team jumped ship from Ford.

Speaking to Speedcafe.com.au, team principal Roland Dane confirms the main purpose of building two new cars for drivers Whincup & Lowndes is so the team will have spare cars if needed – especially considering the tight scheduling of the final three rounds of the championship.
