Jonathan Adam wins Rookie Award

Jonathan Adam was awarded the 2009 Best Rookie in the TouringCarTimes off season polls. The former Airwaves BMW driver was delighted to receive the trophy.

Jonathan Adam started his first year in the BTCC in 2009, after winning the British SEAT Cupra Cup two years running. He surprised all by initially winning a race in his first weekend, by crossing the chequered flag first in the third race at Brands Hatch – but his pass on Jason Plato was ruled as not as clean as it could have been – and so was docked 4 seconds, just enough to drop back behind Plato in the results.

Adam would go on to finish eighth overall in the championship, in a very competitive BTCC season.

With the vote for best rookie, Adam was the clear favourite of the BTCC drivers, winning by a massive majority with 51% of the vote over RML’s James Nash – but faced tougher competition again WTCC’s Mehdi Bennani for the overall award.

In the end, you voted Jonathan Adam as the best touring car rookie last year with 41% of the vote.

Ironically, 2008 Best Rookie Driver winner Steven Kane who was at Motorbase when he won his trophy, has replaced Jonathan Adam for the 2010 season.

Receiving his trophy, Jonathan Adam said to TouringCarTimes:
“It’s a nice reward – obviously it’s nice to get the best rookie for British touring cars but also the overall touring cars”

“Overall we a had a really strong first year in the British Touring car championship…it was a great year last year and it’s just nice to be appreciated by everyone really.”
