Tom Chilton heads Ford 1-2 at Brands

Tom Chilton claimed his second victory of the day at Brands Hatch. His team mate Tom Onslow-Cole made it a Ford 1-2 after an extremely close finish with Gordon Shedden just nine thousands of a second behind after a drag-race to the finish line.
“This is what we wanted! I drove my heart out today,” said Chilton.

Shedden took the lead at the start of the race ahead of Chilton. But things went all-wrong for Shedden at the restart after a safety car session. Shedden got sideways and dropped down to fifth.

“I don’t know what happened. It was like a rear-wheel-drive. Third is still good points,” said Shedden.

The race was interrupted by several pace car sessions due to the very slippery conditions. While Chilton had a rather calm race in the lead, the fight for second was intense.

Onslow-Cole was hard under pressure and fought mainly with Mat Jackson. But Jackson outbraked him self in the closing stages of the race, leaving the fight for second to Onslow-Cole and Shedden.

Shedden had the pace on Onslow-Cole but was not able to get past, although came very close after a drag race to the finish line on the very last lap.

“Fantastic to come away with a second position as we didn’t really have the pace,” said Onslow-Cole.

Alex MacDowall claimed a solid fourth ahead of Paul O’Neill, Andrew Jordan, Tom Boardman and Steven Kane.

Neither of the top runners Jason Plato and Matt Neal scored points today. Plato slowed early on and went in to the pits with some kind of technical problems.

Neal was in the thick of the action for the majority of the race but had to retire with technical problems as well after the final safety car restart.
