Interview – MacDowall heading for top five

Alex MacDowall is going to make his British Touring Car Championship debut this weekend at Thruxton for Silverline Chevrolet.
“I’m not as nervous as I thought I would be. But I guess it will come when I am on the grid,” said MacDowall to TouringCarTimes.com.

MacDowall has driven Clio Cup for the last years and the Chevrolet Cruze is going to be widely different for the young driver.

“The car is actually easy to drive, it does not throw you any thing difficult to handle,” said MacDowall.

The young brit has so far only done two test days with the car, a short test at Oulton Park and the media day at Brands Hatch.

“We worked on getting the best setup and we completed a couple of race distances with competitive times. I am pleased with our progress so far,” said MacDowall.

MacDowall has got one experienced team mate in the form of Jason Plato and the both are getting along well.

“Plato is able to get the best possible out of the new car immediately. We get along really well and he gave me his phone number, saying that I can call when ever I need any advice,” said MacDowall.

The first race of the season is just days away and MacDowall is hoping to break in to top five early on and later challenge for wins.

“I am going do my best all the time and I am aiming for top five to begin with. From mid-season I hope to be in for race wins,” said MacDowall.

While MacDowall is expecting to head straight for the very top of the field, he is not underestimating the opposition.

“The BTCC is just as strong as last year, if not stronger. Giovanardi and Turkington are not here, but they have been replaced by other strong drivers.

And in addition to that we have got two new manufacturer present and we should have a strong and tough season ahead of us,” said MacDowall.
