Nicola Larini eying GT and Superstars
After his retirement from the World Touring Car Championship, Nicola Larini is looking ahead to new challenges. Larini recently took part in the Sportscars Winter Series, driving a Ferrari 430 for CRS Racing.
“After five seasons in the WTCC I didn’t even have time to have a look at the offers, as CRS asked me to race in their Ferrari F430 GT2, to see if endurance racing could be a route I could take,” said Larini.
“I have never driven a GT2 car and the performance of these cars is amazing. I performed really well throughout the races and I won the two races I was involved in,” said Larini.
Larini did not take part in the event for fun, but rather to evaluate his future options.
“CRS are very well prepared technically, and I have already worked with Mark Busfield, the team’s director, as we lived the WTCC adventure together at Chevrolet.
We’re discussing the possibility to work together next year, possibly in the 2010 Le Mans Series and maybe even the 24 hours of Le Mans, a race for which I had a few offers in the past, but they never quite worked out. We are going to talk about it in the next few weeks,” said Larini.
Another option Larini has got is to join the Superstars series in his home country Italy.
“I have an offer for the Italian Superstars Series, in which I would find a lot of my old Formula One rivals. I hope I’ll have a clear view about my 2010 season at the beginning of January, or perhaps by the end of the year,” said Larini.
Fellow Italians and former Formula One stars Gianni Morbidelli, Pierluigi Martini and Andrea Chiesa are already taking part in the Superstars series. Alex Zanardi and Fabrizio Giovanardi are rumoured to enter the series next year.
