Stockholm race set for trotting track
The Swedish Touring Car Championship race in Stockholm, that we reported about a few days ago, is going to take place at the trotting track Solvalla.
“We believe strongly in this idea,” said Christer Brandberg, chairman of Stockholm Trotting Association, to Eurosport.
The trotting track in Solvalla is located less than 10 kilometers from the very center of the Swedish capital Stockholm.
“We are planning for a race at Solvalla and we are currently evaluating the conditions. We have a high belief in arena racing,” said Bob Huzell, MD of STCC AB.
The plan is to hold the first STCC race there in 2011 and the STCC organization is currently working on the track layout.
“A trotting track is built in a special way and we need to find a solution where it does not become damaged.
We have not finalized the track layout yet. We can not just run an oval race track, we need to run the track over the grassy infield as well,” said Huzell.
The environmental ambition of the organization for the race is high. The STCC race in Gothenburg has been “environmentally certified” by the city council for example.
“Local community was included in the tickets for the race at Gothenburg and thousands walked to the track each day as well. That is the type of race that we want,” said Huzell.
