Video – Franz Engstler broke his collarbone
Franz Engstler broke his collarbone in the three car crash that red flagged the final World Touring Car Championship race of 2009 at Macau. Félix Porteiro was also taken to hospital but was quickly discharged after the check up.
While the x-rays showed a fracture in Engstler’s left collarbone, he has been discharged from the hospital.
The incident was started when Porteiro lost control of his BMW and went in to the barriers on the exit of the Fishermen’s bend. Engstler was the unable to avoid his car and crashed in to him, although not that hard.
The really hard impact came when André Couto seemed to ignore or miss the yellow flags and hit the stranded Engstler at almost full speed. Couto was completely unhurt and was able to walk away directly from his damaged car.
UPDATE: Couto was penalized with 30 seconds and fined 1000 €.
