Forster Motorsport enjoy test at Brands
Forster Motorsport’s preparations for their 2010 campaign in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship furthered with a positive test at Brands Hatch this week.
Both Arthur Forster and Martin Depper benefited from some good track time as they strove to find their way around an unfamiliar car, the former Mat Jackson BMW 320si.
Early days with the car involve finding the limits of the car, and identifying any substantial issues with setup which may affect performance.
During these times excursions off-track are inevitable, and during the first day of testing Forster left the circuit at Paddock Hill and hit the tyre wall. The damage wasn’t substantial and the mechanics, who are also learning the new car, were able to get it back out in a short time.
Depper followed suit on day two when he hit the tyres exiting Druids in slippery conditions at the Kent circuit.
Again, thankfully, the damage was minimal allowing the pairing to get more track time during the afternoon, once the mechanics had finished the repair work.
Speaking of the incidents Depper said “We both know we have a lot to learn racing the BMW 320si; we decided to go for 2 day tests as the early days are the most risky – we know we’re going to slip up as we work out the handling points and limits of the car”. .
Forster’s analysis of the test was full of positives, “It’s been a great couple of days, with drivers and mechanics learning more about the car”.
“A little later than expected, we’re now starting to tune into settings we like”, added Forster, who is looking forward to further planned tests at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.
