The dream came true for Timo Scheider
Timo Scheider said ahead of the DTM finale of 2009 that it would be his absolute dream to secure a second consecutive title. And the dream came true yesterday.
“I’ve been able to experience this dream for as much as the second consecutive time thanks to the Audi squad, my Abt team and my family. It’s been a fantastic season!” said Scheider.
Scheider’s challenger for the title, Gary Paffett, won the race, but Scheider stayed close behind through out the entire race.
“With a little more courage I might have squeezed myself into the leading position, but that seemed too risky to me.
That’s why I restrained myself and tried to keep everything that produces performance intact on the car. I managed doing that,” said Scheider.
Paffett managed to take four victories during the season while Scheider “only” took two.
“It’s true that Gary won four races and I just won two, but ever since I’ve been in the DTM the driver who had the highest points score in the end was the one to win the championship. And that’s me,” said Scheider.
When asked how Scheider compares this title with the one he took last year, the answer was:
“The first title involved the highest amount of pressure. The second one is more enjoyable.”
