Lopez wins race two, title almost certain
José María López won the second race at San Juan to take a 30 point lead in the TC2000 championship. Only a miracle for Silva will stop him taking the title.
Equipe Petrobras Honda have now definitely won the championship however, as Toyota driver Norberto Fontana is no longer in contention.
José María López took a second win, again ahead of Renault’s Matias Rossi after starting from pole position.
López was surprised to leave the race with such a big lead after coming into the event behind in the points.
“My objective was to leave with a five or seven point advantage, and to leave here with 30 is something I’d not imagined. I’m in a superb position since I only need a few points (at Potrero de los Funes)”
The season finalé at Potrero de los Funes is an endurance event, which means López will be again be sharing the car with British driver Anthony Reid, who partnered him at the Buenos Aires 200km race before racing in the BTCC for the end of the season.
López only needs three points to take the championship, whilst team mate Juan Manual Silva must win it to be in with a chance. The race is scheduled for 29th November.
