Nykjær rules first qualification heat

Needless to say the rain continued, and the Danish summer seems to over and done with. Michel Nykjær was on pole at the first heat of the final race weekend in the Danish Touring Car Championship, and the job was to shelf as many points as possible.

However Jan Magnussen had the same job to do, as had Henrik Lundgaard in fifth spot.

However Magnussen had no luck getting his BMW of the line in the rolling start, and he was soon passed by both Jens Reno Møller and Jason Watt in their Seat Leon TFSI race cars.

For the sake of the championship, the reigning champion Magnussen managed to fight his way back to Watt, and in the first turn Magnussen sees a hole in Watt’s defence, and goes for it. However the BMW slides in the wet and Watt goes sideways.

Lundgaard who is third in the championship fight only two points adrift Nykjær, has shadowed Magnussen up through the field, and Lundgaard sees the same hole. However Magnussen manage to hit Lundgaard, who hits Watt and that mean curtains for Watt.

This contact did nothing to impress the judges, and the reigning champion was penalized with two penalty tracks. Independent Cup driver Jens Reno Møller benefitted from all this contact, and finished second. Tom Pedersen, who started on the last row in his first race back in the DTC after another blown Mercedes engine, finished third.

John Hansen finished in eleventh spot, ahead in the Invitation Only class.

Race two

In James Thompson´s absence, it was up to the Danish drivers to go for the Danish Touring Car Championship crown. Only two heats remained, and now was the time to gain important points in the final fight before the finale.

However all this was not to be, on the starting lap. The orange BMW of Team Telesikring team boss Peter Ager closed the door for JM Racing driver Kasper Jensen, and then all kinds of things happened. Magnussen has nowhere to go and Jens Reno Møller and Michel Nykjær collide.

Magnussen coming up from behind sees no where to go, hits Ager and in no time Jason Watt, and Henrik Lundgaard is out. So much for the championship fight, but the mayhem didn’t stop here.

Tom Pedersen has been flying all weekend in his Team Telesikring BMW, and he shoots forward from behind. He overtakes Watt, but once again the paraplegic driver draws the shortest straw and is out of competition. Per Poulsen and Kasper Jensen are also overtaken by Pedersen, and suddenly Pedersen sees himself in front.

Independent Cup leader Per Poulsen finished in second spot, while John Hansen in seventh spot can crown himself champion of the Invitation Only class.
