Magnussen thankful for Chevrolet trouble
Jan Magnussen was rather thankful that Chevrolet managed to help him forward in the championship. Even though it was not calculated, he is now second in the championship behind a permanently absent James Thompson.
“This was my best score in the DTC ever,“ Magnussen explains.
“Two victories and a second spot were so much more than we dared hoping for. I have a lot of penalty ballast in the car, and had tire trouble at the end of all three races.”
“But I would like to extend my thanks to my teammate Martin Jensen, for shielding me. He has a great cut in today’s victory, and he will get a very big thank you from me.
Before the first race of today, I was aware that I needed to score more points than the Chevrolet’s with Nykjær and Lundgaard in every heat, if I should be able to compete for the overall championship.”
“It looked very, very bleak and in the second heat I fought hard to get past Nykjær and Lundgaard. When Nykjær chose to try and get on the outside of Lundgaard, I put all my belief in the fact that it would not be success, I tried to follow him on the inside.”
“But before we make it so far, he fails his braking point, and hits Watt, and then they had a few free spots on the grid. It looked very difficult, and the second heat saw me fight hard to get past. Earlier in the year things in the team didn’t go our way, but it did that and now I am back in the fight for the championship.”
“When I deleted the worst result, I have now passed the two Chevrolet’s and I am second in the championship after James Thompson.”
