Matt Hamilton unveils livery for BTCC debut
As announced by TouringCarTimes last month, single-seater ace Matt Hamilton will be joining the BTCC at Rockingham. The ex-Formula Palmer Audi racer will race an ex-Andy Priaulx Honda Civic in the series for the final two rounds of the championship.
19-year-old Hamilton has also previously raced in Formula Ford and Formula BMW, whilst in May he made his GT racing debut in a Ginetta G50 at the highly competitive Silverstone rounds of the FIA GT4 Championship.
Matt’s father Steve Hamilton confirmed that time had just been too short to get the car on track for the BTCC rounds at Silverstone, but Matt had been at the circuit with TH Motorsport in preparation for his touring car debut at Rockingham in two weeks time.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes in August, Hamilton revealed the challenge he was looking forward to tackling on joining the BTCC, saying; “The biggest thing to get used to is the front wheel drive, as when I tested the car a couple of weeks ago it was the first time I’d driven a front wheel drive car.
“I’m not expecting miracles, but with the testing restrictions in the BTCC it’s valuable seat time to get out there and get racing ahead of next season.”
Matt had previously tested the Civic in a plain silver and blue livery, but thanks to Andy Blackmore Design, TouringCar Times can reveal the new livery that will be debuted on the 19th September.
Hamilton’s presence on the grid will ensure there are three different styles of Honda competing, with Johnny Herbert and David Pinkney in new style Civics, and Paul O’Neill and Martyn Bell in Integras.
