2010 will be the end of DTC

Touringcartimes.com has learned that the 2010 season will be the last year of the Danish Touringcar Championship as it is. In an interview with Danish website Sporten.dk, DTC promotor Peter Elgaard explains that the popular series will stop after 2010. The current S2000 cars are too expensive for the teams to race, he claims.

“Just like other sports, we have to take action to reduce costs, and we have a good support for this”, Elgaard said to Sporten.dk.

From 2011, the main Danish racing series will be based on spaceframes with 450 hp, V8-powered engines much like the German V8stars. The main difference would be a longer time between maintenance on the engines than on the S2000 cars, eliminating quite a lot of the expenses for the teams.

The 2010 season won’t remain untouched either. Peter Elgaard explains that the 2010 championship will consist of races in both Denmark and Sweden, forming a Nordic Championship that will continue beyond the end of DTC. “It’s a good way to end the DTC series”, Elgaard said.

According to our sources, two of the Danish races will be held at Jyllandsringen together with the STCC, and the Swedish races will be held at Ring Knutstorp and the Göteborg street circuit, also alongside the STCC.
