Jan Magnussen takes the finale
Jan Magnussen starts from pole position in the finale, in front of Casper Elgaard, James Thompson, Michel Nykjær, Henrik Lundgaard and Jason Watt. But it only takes a few corners, before a mass pileup of cars is a fact: Per Poulsen, Elgaard and Stephansen.
Thee winner of the first heat of the day, Elgaard tries to get past Nykjær on the straight after the line, but is soon tangled in between the guardrail and the blue Chevrolet of Nykjær.
But sadly that is not all; when Elgaard is stationary on the track after only half a lap, Per Poulsen and Joachim Stephansen is trapped, and has nowhere to go. Both Elgaard´s and Poulsen´s cars is heavy damaged, and Stephansen’s car is also out.
Then the lead is as follows, while the safetycar controls the field:
1/ Jan Magnussen
2/ James Thompson
3/ Michel Nykjær
4/ Henrik Lundgaard
5/ Jason Watt
When the field is let loose, Nykjær immediately attacks Thompson for the title, and that fight is a beauty. Today the DTC has given us tough fights and awesome manoeuvres, and the fight between the two title contestants is also nice. But again it’s obvious, that the Honda can’t take the extra ballast and the Englishman looses momentum, But Lundgaard can’t find a way around the now very wide Honda of Thompson.
Instead Lundgaard is attacked by Watt, who is flying. The white Seat is here, there and everywhere. And soon the disabled Seat driver is past, fighting his way up to Thompson as his next target.
On the very last lap, the Seat driver summons all his courage, and outbrakes Thompson at the straight. The Seat is fishtailing all the way past Thompson who wisely lets the Dane past. But somehow Watt manages to get around the corner, and then he is third.
Jan Magnussen wins the finale, branding this weekend as a triumph. Rumours are flying around that Alternative Engineering will not be in the series in the spring of 2010, but right now Magnussen has been unstoppable.
Per Poulsen cashed in a zero points score in the finale, meaning that Jens Reno Møller is leading the privateer cup. Scoring maximum in sixth spot today. Invitation Only was again today won by John Hansen in the Seat Leon Supercopa in thirteenth spot, making him look as a possible titleholder.
“It was great racing, “Magnussen cheered. “This is why I love to come home and race in Denmark. The support I get from the Danish audience is incredible and I am so happy to be able to show off racing like the racing we did today. It was obvious that the public loved it, and I found it a huge laugh. Now I am back in the game in the championship. It will get tough as I had to sit out the last round, but we have to believe in it and take chances. But I think we can do it.”
James Thompson is still leading the DTC with 239 points, but Nykjær holds second with 227 point and teammate Henrik Lundgaard has 205 points.
