Engstler offers 6 cylinder BMW 320si

Independent BMW team Engstler Motorsport is offering a modified version of the BMW 320si E90 with the six cylinder engine from the BMW 320i E46.
“The E90 costs 150 000 euro per season, we can provide it with the six cylinder engine for 100 000 euro,” said Kurt Treml, Engstler Motorsport, to Motorsport-Guide.

Engstler Motorsport has created this model specially for all the privateer teams around Europe.

“The normal E90 is simply too expensive for the national series and the E46 is too old,” said Treml.

The E90 replaced the E46 in 2006, featuring the new 3 series with a four cylinder engine instead of the previous six cylinder engine.

The newer four cylinder engine has proved to be more powerful, but in a shorter rev band and to a higher price.

The six cylinder engine has got a service interval, recommended by BMW Motorsport, of 3000 kilometers compared to the four cylinder engine that has a mere 1500 kilometers. A significant cost difference for independent teams.

The E90 with the six cylinder engine is not homologated by BMW officially, but is available for the national homologation of championships such as ADAC Procar, STCC and DTC.
