Pic special: David Leslie Memorial

Last weekend the David Leslie Memorial Trophy race was held during the Silverstone Classic. At first only touring cars from the Super Touring era were eligible to enter, but after the organization was not able to get enough ST cars to fill the grid, they decided to allow touring cars from older eras as well.

It was great to see the illustrious Super Touring cars back on the track, and the drivers did everything they could to make it a great show for the public.

During the first race, held on Saturday afternoon, Dave Jarman took victory in his Nissan Primera ST, the former Matt Neal car. Alvin Powell in a Ford Mondeo had the lead at the beginning of the race, but dropped back after the first race and had to retire soon after.

In the second race on Sunday afternoon Stewart Whyte took the win in his Honda Accord, which used to be raced by David Leslie. Tom Shepard took second in his BMW E36 M3 GTS. There were three other Super Touring cars in the top five; Dave Jarman in the Matt Neal Nissan Primera ST, Keith Butcher (also in a Nissan Primera) and Alvin Powell in the Rapid Fit Ford Mondeo.

Here’s an impression of the action on Silverstone:
