Primera returns to Silverstone podium

Dave Jarman returned the ex-Matt Neal Nissan Primera to the top step of the podium, in the first of this weekend’s touring car races at the Silverstone Classic. Jarman also recorded the fastest lap in his 1998 Primera, taking victory in the first David Leslie Memorial Trophy race of the meeting, ahead of Stewart Whyte’s 1996 Honda Accord.

The victory margin for the ex-Dynamics machine was 1.906, with the pole sitting BMW E36 of Tom Shephard almost 20 seconds behind the pair in third.

Fellow front row man Alvin Powell in a Ford Mondeo led early on, before Jarman took control of the race on the second lap, taking a lead he’d never relinquish. Shephard held onto second for half the race, until Whyte moved ahead in his Accord on the fifth lap.

Just missing out on the podium was the ex-David Leslie Primera of Keith Butcher, which came home in fourth, closely followed by Richard Austin’s Ford Capri and one of Rickard Rydell’s former mounts, driven by Bernard Hogarth.

Jason Minshaw’s BMW E30 was seventh, with Jim Pocklington’s Vauxhall Cavalier, resplendent in John Cleland’s 1992 livery finishing eighth, ahead of another trio of BMWs.
