John Nielsen demands changes

The Danish veteran, John Nielsen, had his best qualification result this season, starting from fourth spot on the grid in heat one, of this weekends round three of the Danish Touring Car Championship. But that luck didn not last longer than to the first turn. The Danish Le Mans winner was then hit by another car, causing his Team Telesikring BMW 320iS E90 to end up in the wall at a marshal post. Now Nielsen´s team manager demands changes at the track.

Turn one is the fastest spot on the track, marking the end of the straight. On the left side is a marshal post, on the right the wall at the turn.

The car was badly damaged, while Nielsen´s team manager is happy that the 52 year old got away with bruises.

“John had some ribs bent, and complained of blurred vision on one eye,” team manager Peter Ager explains. “So he was brought to the hospital for checkups. He really got hammered, when he crashed into tire wall. No doubt about that.”

The team has now had the time to watch the accident on video several times, and it is not the first time a major accident has happened on that very spot.

“I have watched the accident on video several times, and it is important that we do something about that barrier. It has to be moved, and then we also need a gravel trap, because it is too risky.

That problem must be debated before the next round. Last year a driver demised on that spot, and you can argue that John was lucky driving with a HANS device, that alone made sure nothing more happened.”

Team Telesikring teammate, Joachim Stephansen, did also end up in the gravel at the Horseshoe turn, in the same heat, He was also hit by another car, ending his race prematurely.
