Thompson fastest in first practice

The second round of the Danish Touring Car Championship was sparked to life at noon, when the first DTC racers entered the Padborg Park circuit. Jens Reno Møller dominated the first practice session in his FDM Motorsport Leon, until James Thompson closed the party with a best time of 1.01,304.

As predicted, this southern circuit is the playground of the front-wheel-drive cars, best man with power from behind was Jan Magnussen. But his venture to the front was long and hard, spending more than 10 minutes in the pits, before setting his best time as fifth fastest.

Jens Reno Møller showed once again that he has found his new Seat Leon to his liking, forming the front of the pack with a laptime of 1.02,55, followed by Lundgaard, Nielsen and as the fastest rearwheel drive car Martin Jensen in his BMW.

Jason Watt hit back at the end of the session, with a laptime of 1.01,40. But Jens Reno Møller stayed best privateer. Magnussen was still in the pits, his mechanics working away on the green and white BMW. In the closing stages of the session James Thompson showed his role as favourite hitting the best time in the session, followed by Watt and the Chevrolet gang of Michel Nykjær and Henrik Lundgaard.

Best privateer driver was Per Poulsen in the Hartmann Honda in front of Jens Reno Møller, and best in the Invitation Only class was John Hansen in his Seat Leon Supercopa.

Missing at Padborg Park was the Mercedes of KP Racing, still waiting for a new engine.

Next practice session will start at 14.30.
