Victorious Chevrolet team jubilant
The Danish Touring Car Championship seems to have a new yardstick. The power demonstration of the Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark team has left the team jubilant. Michel Nykjær took two victories, while teammate Henrik Lundgaard took one. Team, drivers and management can’t believe their luck, but it comes to no surprise.
After leaving a thick shade of blue on the DTC Round One, the Chevrolet team decided to bring out the champaign and rock music to celebrate the trophies. Touringcartimes.com managed to single out the main characters behind these victories, drivers Michel Nykjær, Henrik Lundgaard and team boss Kent Bo Steffensen.
Michel Nykjær:
“FDM Jyllandsringen is not an easy track, “ Nykjær explains. “We had expected a top five result, but after making it to number one in the qualification, we changed this strategy to a win. We are a team of drivers, Henrik and I, who look out for each other.”
“We had a good setup, and we have now managed to find a way to save the tires. My goal is now to be the 2009 DTC champion, I won it in 2007. Now we have a good steppingstone, even though I can’t believe that I won this in my DTC debut for Chevrolet.”
“Its hard to look forward to Padborg right now, but its without any doubt a track which suits front wheel drive cars much better than FDM Jyllandsringen. But now I also have to consider another factor, penalty weights. But right now, I want to celebrate with my team.”
Henrik Lundgaard:
“We are a team, and a team looks out for each other, “ Lundgaard explains. “ “We race our own chance, but we are a team. And I must say that everything transpired as we hoped. The car does well on its tires, compared to the opposition.”
“We now have the speed over the distance. I have a good teammate; we match each others lap times. This victory is a really good start. Personally I am going for the driver’s championship.”
Kent Bo Steffensen:
“I must say, that this result is both as expected and as hoped, “ the team boss explains. “It has been a long journey; we have taken it all piece by piece. I can in all honesty say that we have the best team in Denmark, and the best driver lineup ever seen in Denmark!”
“If I am to analyze on the subject, it has taken us three years hard work, we started out this season with the same team which we worked with all last year. We have a core team, which makes us able to hit the ground running when we take on another challenge, and when we start a new season. I am truly proud!”
