Nykjær makes it a Chevrolet walkover
After the dramatic second race at FDM Jyllandsringen, the Danish Touring Car Championship finale was anticipated in awe. Michel Nykjær made the weekend a total Chevrolet walkover, only sharing victories with teammate Henrik Lundgaard. Jan Magnussen was second and Henrik Lundgaard third.
The grid was formed for the final of the three DTC heat. Supercopa driver John Hansen rejoined the back of the field, after hitting the curb and breaking a track rod in an earlier heat. The field was led by the two Chevrolet racers of Michel Nykjær and Henrik Lundgaard.
Right after the start, Hartmann Honda driver James Thompson overtakes second placed Lundgaard after a fierce fight, and the Chevrolet driver is soon attacked by Jan Magnussen as well. But Lundgaard defend his second place to the flag. The train behind Nykjær makes out Thompson, Lundgaard, Magnussen and Jason Watt following each other closely
The front of the field is then pole sitter Nykjær, Thompson, Lundgaard and Magnussen. Apart from Carlsen being attacked by Nielsen and later Martin Jensen, that was it for round one of the 2009 calendar. Nykjær left the field, pulling out a huge lead, and making sure that his win is not under threat by anyone.
James Thompson and Henrik Lundgaard makes out the podium. Best Privateer Cup driver is Per Poulsen on points. And to no surprise, Jens Ole Mathiesen takes the Invitation-Only driver honours.
Round two of the DTC is scheduled in two weeks, Padborg Open at Padborg Park.
