Thompson fastest at Jyllandsringen

Jason Watt impressed last weekend at the second Danish Touring Car Championship test session, by setting a laptime of 1:10.00. Today at the second free practice at Round 1, James Thompson bettered it by two thousands of a second – 1:09.988. The DTC is breaking new ground, and everything looks set for the afternoon qualification.

While Casper Elgaard and Kristian Poulsen are racing LMS sportscars at Spa, the DTC field has now made the final preparations for the qualification later Saturday afternoon.

With asphalt temperature at an all time low and wind gushing ever harder, the British Honda driver managed to break the unofficial S2000 lap record set by Watt on Sunday.

Hartmann Honda has been on top of the lap charts since the first tests, and the motivation is now to set a pole time before the first heat on Sunday.

Chevrolet Motorsport driver Michel Nykjær in second spot has gelled well into his new team, leaving his teammate Lundgaard in seventh. Jason Watt keeps momentum in third spot, although almost half a second from Nykjær´s best time.

Following his mentor John Nielsen round the track, was Team Telesikring driver Joachim Stephansen. The 52 year old veteran is clearly teaching the young driver the optimal line round the curvy Danish track. Fastest Invitation-Only driver was again JM Racing team boss Jens Ole Mathiesen in thirteenth spot.

Missing in the field also is the KP Racing Mercedes of Tom Pedersen. An engine failure before the season opener meant that the team has to wait until Round 2 at Padborg Park, before a new engine can be fitted. Ready for tomorrow morning is the Supercopa of John Hansen, a new gearbox has been fitted and the car is ready to race. However missing today’s qualification will leave him at the back of the field, behind fellow Supercopa driver Martin Marrill.
