Nykjær on pole ahead of Thompson
As soon as the pit opened, so did the clouds over FDM Jyllandsringen. The whole Danish Touring Car Championship field hurried out for a flying lap, and Chevrolet driver Michel Nykjær led the field through most of the qualification. James Thompson improved on every lap, and sneaked ever closer to Nykjær, but there was just not enough time to claim pole.
Starting his first DTC season with Chevrolet, Nykjær has shown himself ever faster as the practice sessions went on. The Chevrolet teammate Henrik Lundgaard followed Thompson in third, trailing Jason Watt close behind.
The moist track made it impossible to reach the record breaking lap times set in the second free practice session, earlier in the morning.
Towards the end of the session, the sun broke through and the track started to dry up. By then time was up, and only a few laps was left.
The biggest surprise must be Martin Jensen in fifth spot, claiming the position in the dying minutes of qualification just 0,011 away from Hartmann Honda driver Per Poulsen.
Jan Magnussen didn’t feel like adding much to his disappointing seventh spot, fueling the speculation about certain challenges to the E85 problems at Alternative Engineering.
The lonely FDM Motorsport driver Jens Reno Møller looked very convincing in eight spot, even more impressing is fellow privateer Michael Carlsen in his Peugeot 407, proudly setting ninth best time. Team Telesikring with John Nielsen in tenth was leading Joachim Stephansen in twelfth spot, and clearly they didn’t get what they expected.
Fastest Invitation Only driver was once again JM Racing´s Jens Ole Mathiesen in thirteenth, only two spots after the teams BMW S2000 car driven by Kasper Jensen.
Warm up is scheduled for Sunday morning at 10.35.
