Volkswagen happy despite initial trouble

The Swedish Touring Car Championship Volkswagen team was pleased with the first outing despite some engine electronics problems.
“We got answer to the questions we had. The conditions were not optimal with all the rain, but we made sure that brakes, suspension and the engine worked,” said team boss Tobias Johansson to STCC.se.

The Volkswagen Motorsport test driver Peter Terting made most of the driving, the two regular driver Fredrik Ekblom and Patrik Olsson were not present.

Ekblom has expressed concerns over the engine characteristics of the bio gas powered Volkswagen engine.

Team boss Johansson got to drive the car for a couple of laps but could not feel any major difference in engine characteristics compared to the previous petrol engines he has driven with.

“From the little experience I got of the car in these wet conditions, I could not feel any major difference in characteristics. It is all about keeping it in the “zone”, just like the other S2000 race engines,” said Johansson.

The first real test of the car, when regular drivers will be behind the wheel, takes place next week at Nürburgring on the 1st/2nd April.
