Tony Johansson will drive Mercedes

Tony Johansson is going to drive a Mercedes C-Class in Semcon Cup with team G-Rex Sweden. The team is preparing to make a full assault on the main championship in 2010 and 2011.
“Our main goal is to challenge the big teams in STCC 2010. We are going to continue development of our new Mercedes which is going to be shown at the Mantorp finale in 2009,” said team director Roland Gingtorp.

The Mercedes Tony Johansson is going to drive this year is the very one Tobias Johansson drove to take the Semcon Cup-title last year. The car was built by Gingtorp.

G-Rex Sweden, with Gingtorp in the lead, has a long experience of building race cars. The team constructed the Mercedes C-Class S2000 for Tobias Johansson in 2003 and the team were involved in the intial building of the S2000 Volvo C30 of Polestar Racing.

Tony Johansson was last seen in the STCC circus driving a Mercedes CLK in the GTR-class in 2001.

The Semcon Cup-field is growing strongly this year, much thanks to the newly introduced prize money, free tyres and fuel.

The total ammount of Semcon Cup entries this year is expected to be around 10 cars, stay tuned for further information on the subject later today!
