Steven Kane voted Best Rookie Of 2008!

Steven Kane has been voted “Best Rookie of 2008” by the readers of TouringCarTimes.com after his efforts in the British Touring Car Championship! The Irishman took the victory narrowly ahead of World Touring Car Championship-driver Jaap van Lagen.
“I am really surprised and pleased to have won this fantastic trophy! I would like to thank the readers of TouringCarTimes,” said Kane.

Kane finished eleventh in the BTCC 2008, driving for Motorbase, in his debut season.

His best finish of the season was second, which he managed three times, with the final race at Brands Hatch being his best race with two podium finishes.

Kane won the award with 34,9% of the votes, 1.8% more than WTCC-rookie Jaap van Lagen and 9.3% more than DTM-driver Oliver Jarvis.

“To be compared with drivers from across Europe is really exciting and nice,” said Kane.

Kane was born in Newtownards in 1980. He first started competing in motocross during the late nineties. The step to four wheels was done in 1998 when he started with karting.

His first major success came in 2000 when he became the Northern Ireland Zetec Champion. In 2001 he was elected McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year.

Before stepping over to touring cars in the BTCC he mainly raced single seaters in British Formula 3, Formula Renault and World Series Renault. He joined team Motorbase in 2007, competing in Carrera Cup Great Britain.

Kane was awarded with the TouringCarTimes Trophy at Brands Hatch during a test session last week.
