Sprint Gas goes red for 2009
Sprint Gas Racing unveiled its new look Holden Commodores for drivers Greg Murphy and Jason Bargwanna today.
“For the first time in the team’s history we’ve gone red,” Sprint Gas Racing’s Jeff Grech said.
“Red is one of Sprint Gas’ corporate colours and a colour that stands out well on and off the track.
“Our focus was to design a livery that was clean and stylish, we’ve definitely achieved this. The cars have a nice flow to them.
“I think we’ll have one of the more attractive cars on the grid this year.”
Sprint Gas Racing not only starts the year with a new livery, but also with a re-designed B-double transporter and an attractive merchandise range.
“I love the look of the team and the cars, we look sensational,” Jason Bargwanna said.
“It’ll be a great feeling walking through the gates at Clipsal on the first morning of the event looking like we do. Once the cars hit the track I’m sure we’ll make an impact.
“I signed up for Sprint Gas Racing and was stoked to be back in V8 Supercars fulltime, where I belong.
“To say I’m impressed with the team is an understatement. It’s obvious to me that I have a quality car and the team has pulled out all stops to make me feel welcome and comfortable.
“I seriously can’t wait to hit the track. If we go as good as we look then we’ll be doing alright.”
“Long time” Sprint Gas Racing driver Greg Murphy is looking forward to the new season.
“We’ve made a big step forward in presentation; today we look like a professional team,” Greg Murphy said.
“It’s been a long off season, but we’ve all been working very hard to be prepared for the test days in mid-March and the first event at Clipsal.
“I’m feeling refreshed and ready and I believe the cars will be more competitive this year compared to last year, thanks to some good development. All that’s left to do is turn them on and go racing.
“The sport has made some really interesting format changes that will spice things up a lot. We want to deliver this year with some good results. Podiums are definitely on the agenda.”
Sprint Gas Racing has worked hard during the off-season to continue development on the two new cars – which were introduced several rounds into the 2008 season.
“The team is starting to get everything together,” Jeff Grech said.
“It’s important to look the part. I’m very happy with our overall presentation.
“We’ve got strong commercial support by Sprint Gas, Fuchs and our other sponsors, and we’ve made big in-roads in car development.
“Over the summer we managed to attract some quality people to the team, including Mike Henry, an engineer with a lot of V8 Supercar experience and success.
“Development is coming along well; I expect our cars to be more competitive and consistent throughout the season.
“2008 was always a development year but we expect to be more competitive this year. Consistency is our focus. We’d like to be around the top 10 in qualifying and races.
“Last year we were a standout at Bathurst, we want to go one better this year and pin point a few other races where we could realistically make the podium.
“I’m really excited about the new season, so is the team and so are the drivers.”
Sprint Gas Racing has a two day test booked at Winton on March 9 & 10.
