Calendar out with Copenhagen race

When the Danish Touringcar Championship organisation today announced the five tracks for eight out of the nine rounds of the 2009 DTC calendar, a surprise was in store. For the first time ever, an official DTC race will be held in Danish capital Copenhagen. The race will be held on the street circuit of the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix, in the central city park Fælledparken.

The only track yet to be announced in the upcoming calendar, is the foreign track usually guested by the Danish Touringcar Championship. Normally the track used for the Copenhagen Grand Prix is Sturup Raceway in Malmö, Sweden.

The track is however not confirmed, and could possibly be replaced by the DTC race at Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix. So an open slot exists, and negotiations have not been concluded so far.

During the last 8 years, Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix has been growing since its debut, four of these at the present location in Fælledparken. In 2008 more than 250 racing drivers with their classic cars from all periods, battled it out on the 2 kilometre long track.

Due to the fact, that it will be the first time the DTC will have an official race on the temporary Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix street circuit, the race will probably be held under other circumstances than usual.

The other 3 tracks announced is the usual tracks used for the Danish Touringcar Championship: FDM Jyllandsringen, Padborg Park and Ring Djursland, the latter back after being left out of the 2006 DTC calendar, due to noise regulations.
