Marshall wants a 10 to finish
IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall is keen to finish the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series, the NRMA Motoring & Services Grand Finale at Sydney’s Oran Park, on a high.
It will be the final race for Marshall with the IRWIN Racing team and he is keen to ensure the race weekend is a highlight for the year.
“For me, IRWIN Industrial Tools and the team it is very important to finish the year on the right note,” said Marshall.
“It is also the final time the V8s race at Oran Park which has a rich history in Australian motor sport.
“The whole group is determined to finish with our heads held high and that means a strong weekend on the track.
“From a driver’s point of view Oran Park is a great track. The combination of challenging corners and the fast start/finish straight, plus it is the only track we race at with a cross-over bridge.
“It has always attracted huge crowds and I see this year being one of the biggest.”
IRWIN Racing Engineer Marcus Clarke shares Marshall’ confidence heading to Oran Park.
“Our chassis has been getting better throughout the season and we are keen to show that at Oran Park,” said Marshall.
“Qualifying will be the key. We need to make the top-20 cut and from there a starting position inside the top half of the field is achievable.
“Marcus has been a gun off the start line and he has shown that he can race with best. So we have every right to feel that we can get a result.
“Despite this being the final race with Marcus and IRWIN, everyone on the team has put in a huge effort and we are all keen to finish the season on the right note.”
The IRWIN Racing Falcon hits the track for practice on Friday, followed by qualifying and the opening 55-lap race on Saturday. Sunday concludes the season with another two 55-lap races.
