Fujitsu Racing set for the long-haul
The Fujitsu Racing team has set-off on its longest trip of the V8 Supercar Championship Series season, the Gulf Air Desert 400 in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf on 6-8 November.
Driver Jason Bright has fond memories of Bahrain, having won the inaugural event in 2006 with Ford Performance Racing.
This will be Bright’s second trip to Bahrain as part of his own Fujitsu Racing team and he is confident of a finish inside the top-10.
“I really like the circuit and the event as a whole,” said Bright.
“Racing on a modern Formula One circuit is exciting and very different to the majority of circuits that we run on.
“Our last start on the Gold Coast was disappointing, but we feel that we have made good progress during the second half of the season.
“I’m sure a good reliable run will see us get inside the top-10.”
Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater is fully aware of the challenge of racing in Bahrain.
“The major thing is the track surface which gets affected by the surrounding desert,” said Slater.
“Usually over a race weekend, the track grip increases. However, in Bahrain track workers have to constantly clean-off the circuit because of all the sand and the grip does not improve.
“We need to tune the car for the low-grip and we feel our chassis will respond accordingly.
“Being a modern F1 circuit, the facility is outstanding and it makes the long trip worth.”
The Fujitsu Racing Falcon is one of 29 cars that will make the trip to Bahrain, with all associated spares and equipment air freighted from Melbourne the weekend prior to the race.
