Russian race & Lada works entry confirmed

A delegation from the FIA World Touring Car Championship visited Moscow on September 7th and 8th. Series promotor Marcello Lotti confirmed the plans to run a race in Russian 2010.
“We see willingness of both Russian Automobile Federation and AVTOVAZ – biggest car manufacturer – to carry out a competition of world level in Russia. As for the date of Russian WTCC race – it will surely take place in 2010,” said Lotti.

Moscow seems to be on the top of the list, but a number of other cities could also get the event.

“We are focused on street circuits and will consider a number of places, including Moscow, St Petersburg and Togliatti,” said Lotti.

During the meeting in Moscow representatives from Lada/Avtovaz confirmed that they will introduce a works team for 2009 in the WTCC.

“We plan to participate in world championship as a works team next season and intend to make LADA PRIORA car ready for racing. In future we would like to use some perspective models in WTCC,” said Aleshin, president of Avtovaz.

Lada/Avtovaz would like to see the race take place in the city Togliatti which is the home town of Lada.

“AVTOVAZ from its side offers WTCC organizers an idea to carry out Russian WTCC event in 2010 on Togliatti street circuit. And in case of positive decision we at AVTOVAZ are ready to go on all the necessary works,” said Aleshin.
