Garth Tander just in race three

Garth Tander’s persistence paid off as he took victory in the third race at Winton Motor Raceway ahead of race one winner, Jamie Whincup.
Third place went to another persistent driver over the weekend, Lee Holdsworth in his Garry Rogers Motorsport Holden Commodore.

As the lights changed Mark Winterbottom lead Will Davison through the Esses, closely followed by Tander. As they approached turn three Tander was able to move ahead of Davison.

Both watched as Winterbottom understeered off through the mud in turn three, handing the lead to Tander. As Winterbottom tried to return to the track, he was collected by Todd Kelly in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Commodore. Due to the damage he sustained Winterbottom was to finish last, 3 laps adrift.

Tander was hassled all the way to the flag by Whincup while Lee Holdsworth learnt a thing from Winterbottom from the second race. He also stayed out as long as possible in his opening stint re-joining the race just behind the leading duo.

Will Davison continued to impress by finished fourth in his DJR Jim Beam Racing Falcon.

Fifth and sixth were the HSV Dealer Team Commodore of Rick Kelly and the Team Vodafone Falcon of Craig Lowndes.

Russell Ingall brought his Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore home in seventh after starting 26th on the grid. And with Paul Dumbrell and Fabian Coulthard joining in, the trio crossed line just one second apart.

The overall round victory went to Garth Tander ahead of Jamie Whincup and Will Davison, even though all three drivers scored an identical total of 272 points for the round. The deciding factor was the finishing order in the third race.

Tander also left the Winton round in the overall lead of the championship points table by just twelve points over the struggling Mark Winterbottom.

But we all know what Mark Winterbottom is capable off..
