Adam Jones still top Independent
Adam Jones remains the leading Independent after Round 4 of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton at the weekend in his GR Asia prepared Seat Leon.
Thruxton turned out to be the first complete dry meeting of the 2008 season where many expected the larger VXR Vectra’s and rear wheel drive BMW’s to dominate.
Jones lined up on the grid for race one just outside the top ten, in eleventh place, alongside his main rival in the Independents race, Mat Jackson in his BMW 320si.
Adam knew he had his work cut out with more BMW’s behind him. After a poor start by Adams standards he dropped to fifteenth place on the first lap but with is usual determination and perseverance he crossed the line in eighth place.
Adam managed to stay out of trouble on the incident filled first lap in race two, finishing just behind his nearest rival Mat Jackson in sixth place.
With the reverse grid, race three saw Jones in fourth place on the grid sandwiched between the two works SEAT Leon TDi’s of Plato and Turner.
“When the lights went out I was involved in one of the fastest and most exciting races I had ever had in a touring car. Adam said afterwards.
On lap 11 Jones made a move for second place on the inside of both Jackson and Andrew Jordan at the back of the circuit, only to be forced onto the grass preventing him to complete the move.
“With just a few laps to go I was in fourth place and then entering the chicane one of the cars in front went off then crossed the track in front of us all causing a minor incident from which I emerged in fifth place which is where I finished the race”.
“To have come away from Thruxton still leading the Independents Championship is quite an achievement for both the Team and myself”.
