Adam Jones takes Independent lead
Adam Jones in his Team Aircool Seat Leon left Donington Park at the head of the race for the Indepenents in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Jones took a win and set fastest lap in two of the three races held at his local track in Derbyshire in the damp and changable conditions.
Saturday morning saw the car on track for the two practice sessions which enabled the Team to fine tune the car in preparation for qualifying. As the day went on the weather conditions changed and this found Adam and various other drivers in cars that were not ideal for the situation resulting in a qualifying position of thirteenth place.
Sunday saw the weather conditions change again and as the cars lined up on the grid for the start of race 1 it started to rain slightly. As the race progressed it was obvious that the track was very slippery as there were several incidents which Adam managed to avoid and finished in seventh place.
Race 2 and 3 were almost an exact replica of the first with periods of rain and sunshine making driving very difficult and after several exciting laps with places changing frequently Adam managed to finish both races again in seventh place having achieved fastest lap in each.
“I knew when I went out in the car on Saturday morning that the changing track temperature as the sun came out would make things challenging and throughout the morning Paul Ridgeway of GR-Asia and his Team who run the car for me worked hard to set the car up correctly. As I prepared to go out for qualifying the temperature changed again resulting in my thirteenth place.
“When I saw on Sunday the weather had changed yet again and there was a chance of rain I realised that everybody would be in the same situation as me with cars not set-up for these conditions. After finishing seventh in the first race my confidence was high and to have finished the day with two more seventh places was a great result.
“To have come away from this weekend leading the Independent Drivers Championship and for Team Air Cool to be first in the Independent Teams Championship is a dream come true for which I have to thank the Team and Air Cool Engineering (Midland) and Bodywork (Solihull) along with all my other sponsors for making this possible”.
