Matt Neal takes first win of the season
The third race of the day was held in very wet conditions which delayed the start. Matt Neal made the most of it and took his first win of the year. Second went to previous race winner Mat Jackson and Adam Jones took a well deserved third place in his Team Air Cool SEAT Léon.
“I’m delighted – it was so difficult driving in those conditions, with lots of puddles and acquaplaning,” said Neal to BTCC.net.
“I couldn’t see a thing out of my back window so just got my head down and went for it. But the Vectra was just dynamite in the conditions and having been on the backfoot a bit at Brands a few weeks ago, when I was still learning the car, this is a great result.”
The last race of the day was a thrilling one and it was not until the last laps that it was decided. Colin Turkington had a big lead initially, but a safety car period took it all away.
The safety car was brought out to clear Darren Turner’s SEAT and John George’s Honda. Both cars had slid off the track due to the wet conditions.
As the restart came Turkington was unable to hold the hungry pack of cars behind him. The BMW seemed to have problems with mist on the windshield. A total of six cars managed to pass him before the checkered fell and he finished seventh. Neal was the first one to get past and managed to put the fastest lap of the race in the process.
Neal’s team mate Fabrizio Giovanardi took fifth place, behind race one winner Gordon Shedden, meaning that the Italian is continuing his championship lead – now with seven points over Mat Jackson.
Next race takes place at Donington Park on the 4th of May.
