SEAT-team wants diesel engines for STCC
The Danish SEAT-team Team Sturup Raceway will join the Swedish Touring Car Championship if they get diesel-engines for their two SEAT Léon. The team is currently negotiating with the Spanish manufacturer about the engines.
“If we get diesel engines we will enter the STCC instead of the DTC,” said team boss Flemming Schleimann.
SEAT made their diesel debut last season in the WTCC at Anderstorp and has been successful with them since. For 2008 SEAT extends their diesel program and the SEAT’s in BTCC will also run on diesel.
“The diesel engines of SEAT are working really well and we would like to use them in our cars. We cannot use them in Denmark, so if we manage to get them we will go STCC instead,” said Schleimann to STCC.se.
Last year the team drove in the DTC with drivers Carsten Leveau and Gunnar Kristensen. The driver line up will be the same for the 2008 program. If the team does not get hold of diesel engines, they will do full DTC-season and a couple of STCC races.
“The trouble is that SEAT is only letting factory teams run with their diesel engines. But we are negotiating with them to get hold of two engines,” said Schleimann.
Team Nordic Fine Art have already announced that they will run a petrol SEAT Léon full season in the STCC with Roger Eriksson behind the wheel.
