BMW’s to dominate the BTCC 2008?

After the announcement that Motorbase Performance are switching to race the BMW 320si in the 2008 HiQ British Touring Car Championship. Indications are that there could be as many as TEN BMW’s in the coming season if interested teams take the options to run the German marque.

The Championship winning 320si E90 model is the main choice for teams after it has dominated the World Touring Car Championship since it’s introduction in 2006. With other teams looking at changing to BMW and the possibility of existing teams running more cars.

There is also Team AFM Racing who races the 120d model in the BTCC. It is planned that another diesel powered 1 series will join them in time for the start of the 2008 season.

The last time this many BMW’s took part in the BTCC was in 1993 when ‘smokin’ Jo Winkelhock secured the championship for BMW. Nine BMW’s took part in the championship that year.
