BMW continues diesel tests for WTCC
TouringCarTimes earlier reported about the diesel version of the BMW 320si that the German manufacturer has started work on for the coming World Touring Car Championship season. According to our information the first test of the diesel car has already been carried out. They have also reportedly performed a back-to-back session with the Championship winning petrol version of the car to help evaluate the performance of this car.
BMW are reported to have high expectations of the car, as initial indications are that the car is faster than the petrol driven version. SEAT is, so far, the only manufacturer that has competed with a diesel car in the WTCC.
But different voices in the WTCC have criticized the diesel rules for being “too free” when it comes to how much the turbo is allowed to charge, among other things.
If the diesel BMW does prove to be faster than the SEAT Leon, then it is likely that the Spanish marque may have to revise their strategy for them to secure the Championship that has eluded them the most!
