SEAT evaluating diesel for BTCC 2008
After the successful diesel debut for SEAT in the WTCC, those cars are a hot pray for SEAT-drivers in other championships. The SEAT team in the BTCC is one of them.
“We’re looking at the feasibility of running SEAT Leon TDIs in the 2008 British championship, and a decision will be taken once we’ve fully evaluated the performance variations between the petrol and diesel cars,” said SEAT UK Motorsport boss Scott Dennis to Autoexpress.
Previous BTCC-champion Yvan Müller is driving a diesel SEAT in the WTCC this year and is up for the title race. Jason Plato just missed out on the BTCC title and is interested in a TDi SEAT Léon for the 2008 BTCC title assault.
“It looks good on paper and it makes sense from a marketing perspective. But first we must find out if it really is a better package. The circuits, tyres and race day formats are different in the BTCC, and despite the obvious commercial attractions, we will only run the TDI if it’s significantly faster,” said Plato.
