Stefan Mücke quits the DTM

Having contested five DTM seasons, Stefan Mücke now quits the most popular international Touring car series. The Berliner who raced Mercedes-Benz last-year spec racing cars from 2002 to 2006 is going to race a Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT in the 2007 FIA GT Championship season.

In spite of Stefan Mücke’s retirement, Berlin based team Mücke Motorsport will continue its DTM involvement.

”I had several good offers for this season and I opted for contesting the Sports Car World Championship as I was of the opinion that this was the most interesting project, on the medium term,” says the 25-year old. “I’ve gathered a lot of experience in my five years in DTM and I really appreciate the great support I was provided with by Mercedes-Benz in all these years. Now I will try to cope with my new task as good as possible.”

Stefan’s father, Peter Mücke, regard’s his son’s new engagement as “Major chance for Stefan. This certainly will mean a lot of hard work for him,” says the Mücke Motorsport Team Principal, “But at the same time, it will represent another vital step for his development as racing driver.” His team, Mücke Motorsport will again be involved in DTM, the Formula 3 Euro series and the Formula BMW Germany, this year.
