Oschersleben gets new layout

Those who expect to witness only racing cars alone, at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, are disabused, these days. During the current track-layout modifications on the 3.667-kilometre track, the action is dominated by heavy machinery.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the circuit located in the Magdeburger Börde region, turn one – at the end of the long pit straight – and the so-called triple will be modified.

During the first construction stage, the pit straight will be extended. Following a 90°-left-hander, the new layout then features a new right-hander, taking the drivers back to the old track. Furthermore, bituminised run-off areas will make for increased safety. “This way, the starting phase will be clearly safer,” explains Managing Director Peter Rumpfkeil. “In addition, the new corner represents a perfect precondition for exciting passing and outbraking manoeuvres, thus resulting in more spectacular action for the crowds.”

In the triple left-hander in the area of the North-West Stands, the boundary surfaces next to the track will be rectified and partly bituminised. The reason: more safety for all the entrants who now are provided with the chance of returning onto the track in a controlled way when having suffered an off-tack moment.

Following the completion of the revamping measures, all car events will be held on the new track version while motorbikes are going to further on use the old layout. The completion of the constructions works is scheduled for 9th February. The €500,000 investment was financed by the turnover generated by the Motorsport Arena’s day-to-day business.
