Elgaard is the new DTC Champion

Casper Elgaard is the new DTC champion of 2006. Elgaard secured his third title today at the final DTC race of the year at Jyllands Ringen ahead of Jan Magnussen. Before the race only six points separated the both. The races were exciting and both drivers fought hard.

“To win three years in a row is fantastic for me. The team is just awesome to have provided me with a winning car over three years. It means alot to me to be able to win when the others are having the same material as me this year,” Elgaard said after the race.

Jan Magnussen had to settle for second place in the championship but won the final race. This was his sixth win this year and he beats the record number of wins during a season that John Nielsen previously held.

“In the final race we did what we could. But I should have been ahead of Casper in the pre-final to stand any chance of beating him. In the pre-final we just did not get the things right,” Magnussen said.

Henrik Lundgaard won the pre-final ahead of Elgaard in second and Magnussen in third. Robert Schlünssen took fourth position with Michael Outzen rounding out top five.

The second and final race was really exciting with only 0.5 seconds separating the leading duo, Magnussen and Lundgaard, over the finish line. Casper Elgaard took third ahead of Outzen and Schlünssen. John Nielsen, who took third place in the championship, never got the chance to drive any of the two races as he suffered from transmission problems.
