TCR Benelux race winner Edouard Mondron to join the International Series at Spa
Edouard Mondron will join the TCR International Series field at the next round at Spa-Francorchamps, after a strong first weekend of the TCR Benelux series last weekend at the same circuit with their new SEAT León TCR.
Edouard and his younger brother Guillaume won the qualifying long race on Saturday, while a pair of fifth and fourth place finishes on Sunday meant they left the weekend in a strong position in the standings, only outscored on track by the Audi pair of Sheldon van der Linde and Stefano Comini, who were only entered for the opening round.
“It’s going to be an interesting season,” said Mondron to TouringCarTimes. “I think we have the potential to fight with the guys at front, and in two weeks we’ll be in the International Series at Spa. We didn’t know where we’d be before, but I think after this weekend, we know can manage to do something.”
The Delahaye Racing team which run the car have upgraded to the Sadev sequential gearbox-equipped SEAT León TCR during the off season, and will enter the International Series race in two weeks’ time as a one-off.
“It’s a good start to the season, and a good start with the new car, as last year we had the DSG, we have the sequential now which is much better for the set-up, in terms of the tyres and for the long race. To win a race with my brother is a great feeling, and also to do it at the most beautiful track in the world in front of these guys, as we are just amateurs.”
