Fredrik Ekblom returns to Volkswagen
Three-time STCC champion Fredrik Ekblom has left Volvo team Polestar Cyan Racing to rejoin Volkswagen team Kristoffersson Motorsport, where he last raced in 2011.
“I hope to be able to contribute with input and deliver points for the team,” said Ekblom.
Ekblom is so far only contracted to drive at the season opener at Knutstorp, but the team is planning to run him in the races later this year when Johan Kristoffersson has clashing commitments with the World Rallycross Championship.
“Fredrik is the driver that has worked the most years with us. When it became clear that he was available, I called him directly. With his experience and personality, he is definitely our first choice,” said team owner Tommy Kristoffersson.
The 46-year-old finished second overall in his last STCC season for the team in 2011, before joining Polestar Cyan Racing, claiming the TTA title in 2012 and most recently finishing 13th overall in the 2016 World Touring Car Championship.
Ekblom recently completed a test with the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR of Kristoffersson Motorsport at Mantorp Park and is looking forward to racing with the new regulations.
“It looks better than in many years. It felt like a new way of working was needed and we are here now,” said Ekblom.
