Sam Tordoff confirms British GT programme with Barwell in 2017
British Touring Car Championship front-runner Sam Tordoff will join the British GT Championship next year, partnering with former BTCC driver Liam Griffin at Barwell Motorsport.
Tordoff, who narrowly missed out on the 2016 BTCC drivers’ title in his fourth full season in the championship, will partner Griffin behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the championship, with sponsor GardX joining him for the campaign.
“I am really excited about 2017 as I embark on a new career in GT Racing,” said Tordoff.
“It is something we have looked at pursuing for a while, and when this opportunity presented itself with Liam and Barwell Motorsport it was the perfect time to jump ship. I’ve known Liam for a long time and I think together in the Lamborghini we have all the tools in place to mount a serious title challenge.
“The British GT Championship is going from strength to strength and I am very aware of the expectations of the team to be at the sharp end of it – I cannot wait to get started.”
West Surrey Racing, the team which Tordoff competed in 2016, have so far confirmed one driver for next season after signing 2013 drivers’ champion Andrew Jordan.
