Stefano Comini and Maxime Potty win qualifying race at Colmarberg
2015 TCR International Series champion Stefano Comini sharing a Volkswagen Golf TCR with Maxime Potty won the first race of the weekend at the Colmarberg circuit in Luxembourg, and secured pole position for the sprint race on Sunday with the fastest lap.
Comini took over from Ronnie Latinne behind the wheel of the WRT Volkswagen, the same team which run the Swiss driver’s Leopard Racing car in the TCR International Series, and helped take his Belgian team-mate to his first race victory of the 2016 TCR Benelux series in the one-hour qualifying race.
Comini/Potty’s closest challenge came from the Opel Astra of Pierre-Yves Corthals and Frédéric Caprasse, but the Belgian pair were given a ten second penalty post-race with dropped them from second to sixth in the final result.
This promoted the Mondron bothers Edouard and Guilluame to second in their Delahaye Racing SEAT León TCR, with the Boutsen-Ginion Racing Honda Civic TCR of Stéphene Lémeret, sharing this weekend with ETCC points-leader Kris Richard, moved up to third.
Lémeret extends his championship lead courtesy of finishing third along with Richard, and with the DG Sport Opel drivers’ penalty.
The first pair of sprint races, with the grid determined from the fastest laps today is set to start at 10:35 CET on Sunday.
