STCC plans races in Finland, Norway and Denmark
The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation, or STCC TCR Scandinavia as they will change name to next year, has announced plans to expand their calendar back outside of the Swedish borders to Finland, Norway and Denmark.
”The championship name will be STCC TCR Scandinavia that indicates our ambitions to not only be in Swede, but that hopefully we will race in Finland, Norway and Denmark eventually. Perhaps not next year but the plan is there for the future,” said Jonas Lundin, MD of STCC AB.
The last time STCC hosted races outside of Sweden was in 2012 at Jyllandsringen in Denmark.
SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing confirmed three SEAT Léons of TCR specification for next season, although they have not yet confirmed any drivers.
”I am really pleased over the cooperation we have with SEAT Sweden and the relationship we have built up during the year with SEAT Sport. This is a receipt that TCR is right and I think it is a wise decision to change regulations,” said Daniel Haglöf, PWR Racing driver and co-owner.
The SEAT cars are the so far only confirmed entries for 2017, while former STCC driver Fredrik Lestrup has signalled his intention to enter, as well as current Brovallen Design driver Rasmus Mårthen and the Clio Cup Scandinavia duo of Nicklas Oscarsson and Marcus Annervi.
Finnish driver Antti Buri, currently driving a SEAT León for LMS Racing in TCR Germany, is eyeing STCC for next year as well, as long as the calendars do not clash.
”The Scandinavian championship is really interesting for us, but I do also want to drive in Germany, so place your races on the right dates,” said Buri to Lundin at a press conference in Sweden yesterday.
