Top Run confirm Subaru test drivers Gabbiani and Russo
Top Run are continuing their work on the new TCR specification Subaru WRX STi ahead of its scheduled debut in Singapore on September, 20th.
With the first car still under construction in the team’s workshop, the Italian team appointed experienced drivers Gian Maria Gabbiani and Roberto Russo as their development drivers.
Gabbiani has a long history of racing in GTs and touring cars. The 36-year-old, who is also a powerboat driver, is the son of former F1 driver Beppe, and a TV presenter in Italy. He took part in the Superstars Series in 2013, disguised as comic character Diabolik as part of a deal with a sponsor, and took part in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series last season.
Experienced driver Roberto Russo, a former Superstars Series competitor, has long been a Top Run driver. The 56-year-old competed in the original Italian Super Touring Championship at the wheel of Lancia, Alfa Romeo and Nissan cars. More recently he took part in the Superstars Series.
The first Subaru WRX is currently under construction, awaiting its carbon bodywork, before it can be completed and set off to Singapore for its debut next month.
